A gentle note…

Smudging is a completely optional add-on and is only included if it feels right for you. I deeply respect all beliefs, traditions, and comfort levels. This service is simply offered as a mindful way to reset your space before baby arrives

Sage Smudging: A Ritual for Renewal

Smudging is an ancient practice rooted in Indigenous cultures across the world, used to cleanse a space, person, or objects of stagnant heavy energy. It’s a ritual of letting go - of what no longer serves - and making space for calm, clarity, and new beginnings.

At Nest & Nurture we honour smudging as a gentle and symbolic ritual that supports transition and intention. Whether welcoming a new baby, moving through a postpartum shift or simply refreshing your space, smudging can help mark the moment with meaning.

Common Misconceptions

I know parts of my service might raise an eyebrow, especially if you’re new to ideas like smudging or intentional rituals. Here’s a little clarity to help you feel at ease:

”Is this just spiritual fluff?”
Not at all. Everything I offer is optional, grounded and made to support you practically and emotionally. Whether you’re here for a good, honest clean or a reset before baby - you’re in the right place

”I’m not into woo-woo stuff or alternative beliefs”
Me neither, really! My goal is to create calm, respectful space - not to push any particular beliefs. The rituals are there if they feel comforting to you. If not? Totally fine. No judgement either way!

”What if I have different spiritual beliefs?”
You are so welcome here. I respect all backgrounds and faiths, and the only thing that matters is your comfort. Nest & Nurture is about supporting you in the way that feels right for you.

* If you have any requests for a ritual that is aligned with your personal beliefs, whether spiritual or otherwise, I will always do my best to honour that. Just let me know and I’d be happy to include something meaningful to you 🤍

What is smudging?

Smudging traditionally involves burning herbs - most commonly white sage, sweet grass, or palm santo - and allowing the smoke to waft through the space, The act is slow and intentional, usually accompanied by a quiet moment, prayer or affirmation.

Cultural Roots

The smudging ceremony holds deep spiritual significance in many First Nations communities, particularly in Australia and North America. We approach this ritual with deep respect and cultural sensitivity , ensuring we do not appropriate sacred practices, but rather draw inspiration from their spirit of mindfulness and connection

Earth

Smudging is used to:

  • Clear the emotional or energetic “residue” in a space

  • Mark transitions, such as preparing for birth or postpartum

  • Create a calm, grounded environment

  • Invite warmth, peace and protection into the home

Why Smudge?

How We Smudge Safely

  • We only use sustainably sourced herbs and natural tools

  • A fireproof dish and careful supervision are always used

  • No smudging is done in homes with known sensitivities unless requested

  • We check for ventilation and fire safety before beginning.

A Ritual, Not A Requirement

Smudging is always optional. It is included in our sacred nest package, but can always be added on as an extra to our other two packages.

Some families prefer a quiet moment of aromatherapy or a handwritten blessing instead of- and that’s just as sacred. We tailor each ritual to suit your beliefs, your space, and your comfort.
